Clerical Abuse and Healing of Our Church

posted Aug 20, 2018, 6:41 AM by Jim Grogan
The news has been difficult for members of our Church and parish these past few weeks, with the failure of Cardinal McCarrick to live out his sacred promises, and the headlines that followed the publication in Pennsylvania of their grand jury investigation of decades of abuse throughout six diocese in our neighboring state. These are difficult topics to discuss, and present particular challenges for Sunday Mass homilies when so many of our young children are in attendance. I offer this video link to my homily on August 16th, at our Daily Mass, where I share my own anger, sadness, and hurt as both a priest, and a member of the global Catholic Church. I encourage those who, like me, have been troubled by these events, to listen to this homily, and I would welcome your conversation with me in the days and weeks ahead. I will not abandon my Church, or my faith and dependence on the healing that can only come from our prayerful appeal to Our Lord.

Your servant and pastor,
- Fr. Jim
