A warm welcome from the Church of the Nativity to Deacon Juan Camilo Perez and Deacon Candidate Augusto Lorenzo Gamalo!

Deacon Juan will be spending the summer with us, then weekends until his ordination to the priesthood next Spring.  Deacon Candidate Augusto, who will be ordained in 2014, will be with us for a year.

Deacon Juan
Camilo Perez , age 30, was born in Medellín, Colombia, son of Mario Perez and Luz Amparo Henao, and brother of Felipe, Miguel, Alejandro, Julian and Sara.  After pursuing studies in philosophy at Pontificia Bolivariana University, he began his seminary studies in the Paterson NJ Diocese in 2007, then transferred to the Trenton Diocese a year later.  In addition to his studies, two parish assignments afforded him well-rounded opportunities to learn about parish life: Sacred Heart Parish, Trenton, and Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, West Trenton.  We are pleased to welcome Deacon Juan to our parish family!

Deacon Candidate Augusto Lorenzo (Al) Gamalo, 25 years old, was born to Castor A. Gamalo and Fara Diva Cortes-Gamalo, in Tacloban, Philippines, and is the eldest of three children, having one brother (13) and one sister (17).  Deacon Al spent 2 years in minor seminary, having entered in 2000 at the age of 12, then finished regular high school in 2004.  After high school, he returned to the major seminary for college, finishing in 2009 after pursuing studies in philosophy.  He had planned on studying theology in the Philippines…”going to America was never part of the plan.  How did I get here?”  Well, Deacon Al, God’s plans are not always in sync with our plans…we are happy He brought you to our Diocese and the parish family at Nativity!
